Taking Your First Steps

Hands-on Workshop that will teach you the first steps that you will need to take to put a WordPress-based website on the Internet.

For the beginner, installing and configuring WordPress can be a daunting task. In this hands-on lab, we’ll walk students through the process of downloading, installing, and configuring WordPress (along with some essential plugins and free themes) and then we’ll guide students through the process of backing-up and restoring their sites quickly and easily.

Students can use their own web hosting accounts or, if they don’t already have an account, they will be provided a temporary hosting account for use during class.

NOTE: To take advantage of a hands-on workshop you must have with you a laptop computer that will accept a Wi-Fi connection. There will be free Wi-Fi available throughout WordCamp. This workshop will be conducted in a room where power outlets are available for each attendee.
